It's Still Winter, But...
We’ve got just about a month left of winter. Spring officially begins on March 19th this year. So, sooner, rather than later, we’ll be outside, planting gardens, doing yard work, and if you’re lucky, dining al fresco at some cute little outdoor café.
I always find it difficult, the transition from winter to spring. I’m itching to get outside after being cooped up all winter, but in reality, there are still a few chilly days ahead. So what to do in that time period? When I got to thinking about it, there are actually a lot of things I’d like to accomplish before the grass gets green and daylight savings time goes into affect.
Think about it; much of our early winter is spent preparing for the holidays. With shopping, and decorating, and gift wrapping etc. it doesn’t leave a lot of time for anything else. Now is the time to do all those things you haven’t had time to do.
1) Read a book – Grab one off your shelf; take out your Kindle or head to the nearest library. The supply of good reads is endless and what better time to curl up in a cozy corner of your home and get lost in a book?
2) Craft Project – Woodworking, scrapbooking, sewing and more. Take some time to foster your inner creativity. Whether you’re making a gift for a friend, or a new piece for your own home, use this time to make it happen!
3) Movies & TV – Overall, I don’t spend a lot of time with screens (other than my computer when working.) But if there is ever a time to catch that Oscar winning movie or binge-watch a favorite TV show, this is it.
4) Cooking – OK, sure, you probably cook something almost every day. But I’m not talking about opening the fridge, seeing what’s in there and coming up with a quick, easy dinner. I’m talking about poring over Bon Appétit Magazine, or downloading a cooking app, selecting a recipe or two, heading to the market to buy all the perfect ingredients and spending a good part of your day creating the perfect meal. I find this works even better if I sip a glass of wine while chopping and mixing and pre-heating!
So embrace these last few weeks of winter and find something you love to do! But remember, spring is just around the corner!
