Color is Making a Comeback!
There’s a trend happening. I see it in magazines and television ads; on billboards and social media. Color is coming back and I can’t think of a better time than the beginning of summer to hop on this bandwagon!
Summer lends itself to color. Our landscape is blanketed in a rainbow of flowers and blossoming trees and bushes. And let’s face it, it’s just easier to experiment both inside and outside of the house with decorating and gardening ideas at this time of year.
Soft, pretty pastels and bold, vibrant hues are both trending up and I’m so excited! It seems to me that for a period of time, we’ve been stuck in a land of neutrals. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still room for the whites and tans and grays of the world. Personally, I like to paint a room in a neutral base, but then use color as a decorating tool. Fabrics for furniture and window treatments lend a fun touch of color, pattern and texture to any room.
Creating vignettes for the season can also be a great way to brighten up a space in your home as well. Using pottery, porcelain and glass in different colors when serving guests is a temporary way to use color when dining.
Outside, you really can’t go wrong. Whether you plan a themed space (think roses and peonies in dark and light pinks, blush, and peach) or just throw a mix of wildflower seeds into a patch of dirt and see what comes up, using flowers, both annual and perennial, is a lovely way to increase the visibility of your home and bring color to your neighborhood.
Regardless of you decorating plans this summer, don’t be afraid to embrace color!
